DB SCOUTING ANALYSIS

Yannis Verdier

23 years · Fleury 91 FC · AG / MOC / BT

Yannis Verdier is a wide forward capable of operating very high on the left, moving inside into the half-space and finishing attacks as a second striker. His profile is built first and foremost on direct ball carrying and his ability to create an advantage in 1v1 situations. He likes to receive facing forward, engage his opponent quickly and then use the space created to enter shooting zones or connect with a teammate. His current season shows a genuine ability to convert favourable situations, with finishing quality above what his chance-creation volume alone would suggest. He is not limited to a finishing role: several matches show that he can contribute cleanly to possession, receive between the lines and act as a link player in the half-space. His best version appears when he receives on the move and can attack a defender or a disorganised line. In those situations, his carrying, change of pace and ability to move quickly into a shot are difficult to control. His crossing remains less consistent and his aerial influence is limited despite his frame. His effectiveness in physical duels also varies according to the type of opponent and the way he receives the ball. Without the ball, he can press and recover into his flank, although his defensive contribution is more complementary than structurally important. At present he profiles as an immediate-impact player performing strongly in the French third tier, with real value in the final third and useful versatility between left wing, wide attacking midfield and striker. The main question for the next level is whether his finishing and ball-carrying impact transfer against faster, denser and more physical defences.
